Cittadella Museums: Open Weekend

As part of the 'Cittadella Arts Festival', the following museums will be open for free:

Cittadella Visitors’ Centre
Gozo Archaeology Museum
Gozo Nature Museum
Old Prison
Gran Castello Historic House
Cathedral Museum

These Museums will be open for free on Saturday 7 th September and Sunday 8 th September.

Art Exhibition – Cittadella Arts Festival 2019

An art exhibition is being held in Circolo Gozitano, Victoria, from Friday 30 th August to Friday 6 th September.  The paintings are of Kevin Sciberras and represent a number of Maltese iconic spaces.  This exhibition is part of the Cittadella Arts Festival 2019.  Entrance is free.

Gozo Film Festival

This is the third year of the "Gozo Film Festival".  In these three days, Local and International Filmmakers will offer the public to view their Films for free.

This event will be held between Friday 23 rd August and Sunday 25 th August, from 8.30 pm to 11.30 pm, at the Citadel.

Cittadella Arts Festival

Starting from Saturday 17 th August to Sat 7 th September, there will be a Festival of Art, Music and Theater at the Citadel.  There will also be other activities, like a walk around the Citadel or an Open Day of the Museums.

Commemoration of the 1551 Siege

"A play commemorating the 458th anniversary when Gozo had been attacked by the Ottomans. Some 5,000 persons forming the greater part of the Gozitan population had been captured and taken into slavery. This after the Gozitans had been forced to capitulate and open the doors of the Citadel because they had no means of defending themselves."

This event will be held on 26 th July, from 8.30 pm to 9.30 pm, at the Citadel.

Symphonic Opening

"The opening concert of Gaulitana celebrates Marcelline Agius, on her 25th anniversary as leader of the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra in a programme featuring Schubert’s Unfinished Symphony. The event is organized in collaboration with the Gozo Curia, as part of the celebrations marking the 400th anniversary of the Ta’ Pinu Sanctuary chapel altar painting."

This event will be held on Saturday 9 th March, at the Gozo Cathedral, from 7.00 pm to 9.00 pm.

Together We Rise

"In collaboration with the Chinese Cultural Centre, this exhibition opens on Women’s Day and presents works by Chinese female artists. The art exhibition will remain open until the 31st of March."

This event will be held at the Citadel Cultural Centre, Cittadella, Victoria, from 9.00 am to 5.00 pm.

Gozo Film Festival

"This is a three-day long event promoting local (Gozitan and Maltese) and international filmmakers and that will offer the general public free viewing of selected movies, spanning different genres. Feature films, short movies, a children programme, lectures on filmmaking, documentaries are all part of the programme, which will surely satisfy all cinema lovers, adults and children."

This event will be held between Friday 24 th of August and Sunday 26 th of August, at the Cittadella, Victoria, from 8.30 pm to 11.30 pm.

Exploring a Smaller & Invisible World

"Exploring a Smaller & Invisible World: Science Applied to Cultural Heritage Investigations 

This is event is being hosted as part of Science in the Citadel 2018 and showcases the backdrop of scientific applications to answer questions of a historical nature either as part of research or conservation-restoration strategies. The young ones can also have a look through our microscope and learn how paint looks like and other items from daily life. It is literally visualizing a world which is invisible to our daily lives."

This event will be held at the Citadel, Victoria on 28 th April from 12.00 pm to 4.00 pm.

Science in the Citadel

"The second edition of Science in the Citadel is a one-day Science extravaganza, taking place within the historic walls of the atmospheric Cittadella in Victoria.
